As the founding producer of the Society6 Art Quarterly, my duties included curating a balanced international array of artists, cognizant of style and medium as well as diversity. Duties included art direction, selecting cover artists and directing custom artwork for covers, overall design, layouts, writing as well as vendor relationships, press checks and final proofing.
Tools: Adobe CS, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Years of Experience, Diplomacy, Humor, Perspective.
Midway through the publication’s second year, I won a pitch to produce a complete rebrand and re-design of the Quarterly. The name would change slightly from Art Quarterly to Artist Quarterly, a small shift in the view from overall art to highlighting the profound talent of the artists within the Society6 artist community. This new iteration of the Quarterly would also feature a second exciting debut element - the Flipside Art Zine. This Flipside concept would allow for the Quarterly to have two covers, doubling the opportunity to showcase an artist and also delivering a looped / never-ending art experience for the viewer or consumer. This new idea existed literally on the other side of the Quarterly as you flip the book over. The Flipside curation was sourced entirely from artists showing interest by answering a call-to-action posted to the site with them being eligible for selection and agreeing to produce new work specifically for that book’s theme. Themes included: Secret Garden, Full Moon, Retro and more.
