In 2019 I was tasked with creating the graphic materials for the Okayama Denim + Studio D'Artisan collaboration which featured a Matcha tea dyed weft. The denim fabric for these G3 super slub jeans is crafted on a Toyoda shuttle loom known as the G3. This shuttle loom is considered the first and finest example of a non-automatic changing shuttle on a Selvedge denim producing machine. You can see from the image above the green tint from the Matcha dye, which took three attempts to achieve the rich green tea coloring.

A fun note, the flasher artwork (the paper tag on the outer back pocket above / left hand image) is crafted out of Japanese Washi paper. Washi paper is traditionally used for book covers and origami, and is both highly durable & malleable.

These images show the journey to accomplish the merger of both brands' needs in being equally showcased in the imagery as well as the messaging of the 40 year anniversary coupled with this unique Matcha green tea visual.

The progression of graphics in the above images for the artwork featured on the interior pocket as well as the exterior flasher tag offered a bit more real estate for showcasing the elements needed. We can more clearly see the announcement of the 40 year anniversary around the central graphic anchoring the Matcha messaging in the central space of the artwork.

We see on the far left another art element added to every collaboration between Okayama Denim and Studio D'Artisan during their 40th year anniversary releases: a commemorative 40th year rayon stitched tag. In the center we see the Matcha pocket bag artwork IRL, which is printed in four colors and next to this on the far right a view of the jeans with a view of the rich green tea dyed weft interior.
