In 2019 I was tasked with creating the graphic materials for the Okayama Denim + Studio D'Artisan collaboration which featured a Matcha tea dyed weft. The denim fabric for these G3 super slub jeans is crafted on a Toyoda shuttle loom known as the G3. This shuttle loom is considered the first and finest example of a non-automatic changing shuttle on a Selvedge denim producing machine. You can see from the image above the green tint from the Matcha dye, which took three attempts to achieve the rich green tea coloring.
A fun note, the flasher artwork (the paper tag on the outer back pocket above / left hand image) is crafted out of Japanese Washi paper. Washi paper is traditionally used for book covers and origami, and is both highly durable & malleable.
